The Candida Diet

To be clear, when we refer to a candida diet we are talking about a diet for reducing candida in the digestive system.

In particular, candida in its more virulent form where it dominates the intestinal flora, pushing out probiotics (friendly bacteria) and changes into a fungal form which can cause damage to the digestive system and significantly upset the normal digestive process.

To fully understand the effects of sugar on candida diet we need to investigate the mechanism of candida overgrowth. Problems occur when candida is given the opportunity to grow excessively and in turn change into a more virulent fungal form which is said can grow ‘roots’ into the digestive tract.

Supposed effects of this candida overgrowth are a greatly reduced ability to digest food correctly.

Candida Diet Works For Vegetarians

While over-the-counter medications and other home remedy-type treatments can be effective in treating the symptoms of candida, in order to treat the source and kill off candida overgrowth it is important to focus on nutrition. Everyone knows the junk-food vegetarian.

For vegetarians and vegans, it can be challenging to meet the protein needs the candida diet recommends. Protein keeps the blood sugar regulated, which helps prevent sugar spikes and an increase in yeast production. Nut butters, fish, beans, soy and dairy products are all good protein sources that add excellent variety and flavor to your diet.

Some good selections for candida diet in vegetables include: leafy green vegetables, cucumbers, cauliflower, broccoli and peppers. Avoid starchy veggies like potatoes and corn, which convert to sugar in your system when you eat them.
